I’m a huge fan of Ben “Smooth” Henderson so my comments will be completely one-sided. Please feel free to comment or send in a post to support Jamie Varner.
I watched Ben wage war on Cowboy Cerrone. It was the first time I’d seen Ben fight. I love watching Cowboy fight so, for that fight, I was rooting for him to win. But, Benson was victorious! He definitely caught my eye.
A few weeks after that fight, I had the opportunity to meet Ben when he visited Florian Martial Arts Center to train with Kenny “KenFlo” Florian as both men prepared for their upcoming fights. SmoothBen’s a really nice guy. He’s gracious, humble, charming and tough as nails. That’s a winning combination in my book.
I got some great shots of Ben and Kenny sparring and practicing getting out of difficult positions during a fight. You can see more of these photos by clicking this link:

Predictions of who will win highlighted in brown
I haven’t seen many of these fighters in action. It feels a bit like picking horses at the track. I made my choices by looking at their body type, muscularity, whether they have "eye of the tiger" and that special something that winners have and losers don’t.
Jamie Varner vs. Ben Henderson
Urijah Faber vs. Raphael Assuncao
Rafael: BJJ, Muay Thai, good defense, always looking to push the action
Faber: Excellent submissions, strong takedowns, and lighting-fast hand speed – he’s in his hometown. He’s gonna bring it.
Dave Jansen vs. Kamal Shalorus
Jansen: Wrestling, Submissions, Cardio, Heavy Hands
Kamal: Wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu
WEC: What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight?
Kamal: “I want to win, but when I fight, I fight for my pride and I want to destroy my opponent. I don’t think of anything else. I’m going to catch his mistakes, so this time I’m going to take my time in the fight.”
Mike Brown vs. Anthony Morrison
Brown: Punching Power and Strong Submission skills
Morrison: Fast, good standup, good wrestling
Mackens Semerzier vs. Deividas Taurosevicius
Mckens: Aggressive, Well Rounded
Deividas: BJJ
Charlie Valencia vs. Akitoshi Tamura
Valencia: Wrestling (5’3” - stocky wrestler – you know those little wrestlers are tough. They fight like they’ve got something to prove.)
Tamura: Submissions, kickboxing, wrestling 5’9” 135lbs (too skinny in my opinion)
Wagnney Fabiano vs. Clint Godfrey
Fabiano: Submissions
Clint: Kicks, heart
Wineland vs Roop
Wineland: KO power, striking, wrestling
Roop: Stand-up; at 6’1” dropping to 135lbs? Drops two weight classes – really wants it, but is this the right strategy?
Hominick vs. Caraway
Hominick: Kicks, heart
Caraway: Well Rounded, always looking to finish
Campuzano vs. Wheeler
Campuzano: Strong ground game
Wheeler: Well rounded and unpredictable
WEC: What, other than WINNING, are you using for motivation for the fight?
Wheeler: To pay some MO FO BILLS!!!!
Reminds me of Bisping – he always fights like the rent is due!

Hi Bill,
I'm so excited for tonight's fights! Everyone has an opinion, but in the end, each fighter has a puncher's chance. You get clocked on the button and you're going down, son. Hopefully, that will be Varner hitting the canvas tonight. We'll see what happens. Fights tonight, fights tomorrow night and old Pride fights each week starting this Friday night. Sweet!!
