ThatGirlisFunny’s Fight Picks
Hall of Famers Randy “the Natural” Couture vs Mark “the Hammer” Coleman meet in the octagon on Saturday night. I’m excited to see these old guys battle it out. I love that they’re not going “gentle into that good night” as Dylan Thomas advises in his classic poem. Raging against the dying of the light, they’re in a stare-down contest with Father Time. Whoever wins, it’s a victory for old dudes and weekend warriors all over the globe.I love both of these guys! I'm looking forward to an exciting battle full of highlight reel footage.

Battle of the Female Fight Pickers
plus @WolverineTim
@WolverineTim is throwing his fight picks in the mix for UFC 109. Amazingly, we agree on 9 out of 11 of the match-ups.
Where We Disagree: Wolverine believes
- Mike “Quick” Swick will defeat Paulo Thiago
- Phil Davis will prevail over Brian Stann
ThatGirlisFunny’s Fight Picks
I love Mike Swick. He has experience against strong opponents, but I’m taking Paulo Thiago to win this time. According to UFC.com, Paulo says his strengths are being focused and having a strong chin. That’s like asking someone to test it, right? Mike will definitely be checking the strength of Paulo’s chin on Saturday night. I wonder if Paulo will find an opening that will allow him to upset Mike’s game plan. Paulo is a Special Ops Police Officer and holds multiple BJJ awards. This guy is cool under pressure. He's had many real life experiences to test his ability to think on his feet. I can't wait to see how this plays out against Quick Swick's attack. This will be a great fight to watch!
Brian Stann is a Marine…I have a thing for guys in uniform so I’m choosing him over Phil Davis. What can I say? Special Ops…Marines…whew!...is it getting hot in here?
The Line-up for UFC 109: my predictions for the winners (bold)
Mark Coleman vs. Randy Couture
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Mike Swick vs. Paulo Thiago
Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg
Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller - Will Dan’s Muay Thai make a difference in this Battle of the Black Belts?
Justin Buchholz vs. Mac Danzig
Melvin Guillard vs. Ronnys Torres
Rob Emerson vs. Phillipe Nover
Phil Davis vs. Brian Stann
Tim Hague vs. Chris Tuchscherer
Joey Beltran vs. Rolles Gracie
Heavyweight, Rolles Gracie trains at Greg Jackson’s camp with strong wrestlers and world-class sparring partners. Plus, the pedigree of his family name makes this guy dangerous! I can’t wait to see him in action. (Rolles is pronounced Hollis.)
Before moving to Boston, my friend, Josephine, trained BJJ with Matt Serra. As a special shout-out to Matt, Josephine shares her thoughts...
Training at Matt's Gym - Serra BJJ
by Josephine
Talking about Matt is like talking about family- because that’s who both he and the Serra BJJ academy are to me, family.
When you walk through the doors of this academy, you immediately feel that you have become a part of something that is much bigger than yourself. That is the reason why once you walk in, you never leave. The major influence for that is Matt.
When you become a part of this team, you’re not only surrounded by the most talented fighters, but also the best people whom you will ever come across in your life - and to me, that is all centered around the type of person Matt is and the impact he has on the people that make up this team.
Matt as a fighter, is one of the most influential and greatest of fighters out there. This is evident through his experiences, impeccable technique, professionalism, performance, and dedication, just to name a few.
Matt as a person, is the most real, honest, caring, and sincere of persons I’ve ever met. He is my biggest role model.
People can say what they want to say, and they can feel how they want to feel. If people want to doubt his abilities and the extent of his talents, they can go ahead and do so. He will only make you later regret your ignorance by proving you wrong.
Most and above all, he serves as an example that if you’re dedicated, if you work hard, and never ever give up, you can accomplish all of your goals and make any and all of your dreams come true.
He wanted to train Brazilian jiu Jitsu. He became the first American black belt.
He wanted to become Champion of the World- he became the UFC Welterweight Champion of the World.
He wants to win - he WILL win on February 6, 2010 against Frank Trigg!
