Oklahoma City Thunder at New Orleans Hornets
NBA Basketball: Wednesday February 3, 2009 08:00 PM EST
The Line: Over/Under 193
Tonight we see The Chris Paul less Hornets host the Oklahoma City Thunder in New Orleans.
After playing their best basketball of the season the (26-22, 23-25 ATS) Hornets were dealt a huge blow with the news that Chris Paul will miss at least a month after re-injuring his knee. On the other hand things couldn't be any better for the (27-21, 29-19 ATS) Thunder as they have won 3 straight and 6 of their last 9 overall.
The Hornets and Thunder met for the first earlier this month in New Orleans with the under being the winner, however the previous 3 before that all went over the total.
- Over is 5-1 in Hornets last 6 overall.
- Under is 18-7-1 in Hornets last 26 games as a home underdog.
- Under is 37-18 in Hornets last 55 home games.
- Over is 18-8 in Thunder last 26 games playing on 0 days rest.
- Under is 11-5 in Thunder last 16 vs. Western Conference.
- Under is 11-5-1 in Thunder last 17 games following a ATS win.
Chris Paul is the engine that makes the Hornets go and with him out of the lineup I think the Hornets will struggle to score a big total in most games. Darren Collison put up some nice numbers in Paul's first game missing but he is not the scorer or even close to the play maker Paul is.
OKC who are known as a tough defensive team which is quite surprising given how young they are, have scored over 100 points in each of their last 3 games, however they all came against fast paced offensive teams. In the previous 7 games before that the Thunder failed to reach points 100 each time, while holding their opponents under 100 in 6 of those games.
Don't let the previous couple of results scare you as each of the last 3 overs could have gone either way, a couple of missed buckets here and there and you could be looking at 5 straight unders. In those 3 games the total went over Chris Paul put up averages of 23.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 12.6 assists so it's safe to say Paul will be missed tonight. Given the fact that the Hornets might struggle to score and that the Thunder are a good defensive squad that faced a tough Atlanta team last night, it's safe to say I like the under in this game ...
Dan's Pick: Under 193
